What Functions to Look For in a Pedometer
Deciding what kind of pedometer you want can be tricky. There are so many types and styles in the market. If you do a Google search you will come up with so many options and prices that range from $5.00 to $200. How do you decide?
Before you even look at functions in a pedometer, you want to look at ACCURACY. If your pedometer isn’t accurate, it’s a waste of your money. See the Home Page for our HISTORY of ACCURACY.
Think about what you want to accomplish. Do you want to be more active? Then you probably want to track your steps and activity time. Our newer pedometers have a function called Moderate to Vigorous Activity which tells you how much time or “bouts” of each you had in your day. These pedometers have an “MV” added to the part number in OUR CATALOG. Do you want to lose weight? You can accomplish that by tracking steps and activity time as well but you could add in Calories Burned. Remember that there is a balance between caloric intake and activity if you want to lose weight. Mr. Pedometer calls it “Eat Right, Move More”. You can add distance, some have GPS, alarms, and some even talk. Deciding what you want to achieve will help you decide what type of pedometer you want to wear.
Is a WARRANTY important to you?
Look for Warranties. You want to purchase a pedometer that will last and that can be fixed or replaced is there is a problem. Be sure to check out what the warranty is BEFORE you spend your money.
Battery Life is a BIG deal!
It is VERY important to look at the expected battery life. Look for a pedometer that has a battery that will last at least a year if not longer. Batteries are lasting longer these days even up to three years! Selecting a pedometer that will go into “sleep” mode when it is inactive will make your battery last longer. This is a BIGGIE when selecting a pedometer. You will want it to last.
